New York Carmelite Nuns Go Viral Singing for Scotland

A convent in full voice

The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, based in Germantown, joined in with songs including *No Scotland, No Party* and *We'll Be Coming*, waving Saltires as they backed Steve Clarke’s side from across the Atlantic.

The connection is more than a novelty. The order has Scottish roots through Venerable Mother Angeline, who was raised in Scotland, giving the singalong a personal link to the country and its footballing return.

The video has resonated because it reflects the growing support around Scotland in the United States. The team are appearing at the tournament for the first time since 1998, and their opening 1-0 win over Haiti in Foxborough has brought thousands of supporters towards Boston.

Football, faith and a growing following

John Patrick Mallon, co-founder of Sancta Familia Media, described the sisters’ hospitality in simple terms: “Thanks to these sisters' incredible hospitality, I was able to go see Scotland in the World Cup.”

That warmth has been matched by the wider reaction. Julie Harrigan Hilton called the footage “so heart warming”, while the nuns’ enthusiasm offered a lighter moment during a tournament that carries enormous significance for Scotland supporters.

For a country accustomed to long waits and near misses, every gesture matters. The songs, flags and unlikely transatlantic backing have helped turn Scotland’s campaign into a shared occasion well beyond the travelling support.

Morocco brings a tougher challenge

Clarke’s team currently sit top of Group C before facing Morocco at Boston Stadium on Friday. The result will test Scotland’s early momentum, but the message from New York is already clear: the Tartan Army is expanding - and singing loudly.
