South Shore Athlete of the Week Ballot Features Soccer Stars

Soccer brings goals and saves

The soccer nominees offer the biggest attacking numbers on the ballot:

  • Christian Truglia reportedly scored five goals in Hull’s 7-1 win over Tri-County.
  • Dylan Baldwin reportedly struck four times as Pembroke defeated Quincy 8-1.
  • David Sellars produced two goals and three assists in Archbishop Williams’ 5-0 victory over North Quincy.
  • Oliver de Lima Rubb made 10 saves for Norwell in a 2-1 win against Catholic Memorial.

The range of performances gives voters more than one way to assess impact. Truglia and Baldwin delivered individual scoring bursts, while Sellars combined finishing with chance creation. De Lima Rubb’s contribution came through resistance at the other end of the pitch.

Golf adds precision

Golf supplies four of the reported nominees, with several players producing scores under par:

  • Thomas Dunne shot 35, one under par, as Hanover beat Quincy 233-276 at Granite Links Golf Club.
  • Joe Mulvey carded 36, one under par, in Scituate’s 239-257 win over Silver Lake.
  • Hank Najarian posted 35, one under par, as Duxbury defeated Marshfield 240-248.
  • Chase Thomas recorded the best individual mark, a 34, in Canton’s 141-156 victory over Milford.

Mulvey’s team is reportedly unbeaten through five matches, adding a sustained winning thread to his nomination. Thomas, meanwhile, has the lowest individual score among the golfers listed.

The vote enters its final phase

The ballot is separate from the American football poll and reportedly has no limit on votes per participant. Voting closes at noon on Monday, September 21, while email submissions will not count.

The key storyline now is whether voters favour explosive goal-scoring, defensive heroics or the precision of golf. Future ballots will reveal whether this broad format becomes a regular feature of the South Shore sporting calendar.
