Ghana’s night began with an early caution, Yirenkyi going into the book at 15' as the first half stayed goalless.
A change arrived at the break when Lawrence Ati Zigi was replaced by Benjamin Asare on 45'. Otto Addo then rolled the dice again on 57', sending on Brandon Thomas-Asante and Abdul Fatawu for Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ernest Nuamah.
Panama answered with their own switches - Jose Fajardo and Azarias Londono entered on 62', before Ismael Diaz followed on 73'. Despite enjoying 63% possession and firing 11 shots, Panama couldn’t find the finish, with Ghana repeatedly forced into last-ditch defending, including 40 clearances.
As the clock hit 90', Ghana finally made the pressure count: Thomas-Asante supplied the assist and Yirenkyi applied the finish for the match-winning goal. Panama’s frustration showed with late discipline issues too, Carlos Harvey seeing yellow at 90', as Ghana closed out the 1-0 scoreline at full time. The victory puts Ghana in 2nd position in Group L, with their chances to qualify very much alive!
