Luis de la Fuente Warns Klopp: Germany Rebuild Needs Time

Identity before immediate results

De la Fuente believes Germany must establish a clear football philosophy and remain committed to it when setbacks arrive. Constantly changing direction, he argues, would only delay the recovery.

“[Klopp] is a world-class coach,” de la Fuente said, while stressing that the new manager must be allowed time to understand the rhythm and demands of international management.

That patience could prove essential. Unlike at club level, a national coach works in short bursts, with limited training camps and little opportunity to correct weaknesses week after week. The rebuild will need to be clear enough for players to absorb quickly.

Germany’s talent offers a foundation

Germany are not starting from nothing. The squad contains experienced internationals alongside a younger generation capable of carrying the team into the next cycle. Florian Wirtz is among the most important figures in that transition, offering creativity between midfield and attack.

De la Fuente also placed the challenge against Germany’s proud football history, recalling the influence of players such as Günter Netzer and Paul Breitner. That tradition creates expectation, but it can also make every setback feel like a crisis.

Spain’s example

De la Fuente’s own work with Spain provides the argument for continuity. He has overseen a side built around a recognisable style and a willingness to trust emerging talent, including Lamine Yamal.

“At that age he did things on the pitch that I had never seen before,” de la Fuente said of the young forward.

For Klopp, the next test will be turning Germany’s potential into a settled team. The first fixtures of his reported tenure will show whether patience can survive the pressure for immediate success.
