Top 20 Regional Teams Enter a Decisive Tournament Stretch

Essex County final could deliver a heavyweight clash

The most compelling potential matchup is a possible Essex County Tournament final between St. Benedict’s and West Orange.

The report says unbeaten St. Benedict’s has recorded 11 wins and one draw, including recent 3-0 victories over Salesianum and St. Thomas Aquinas. Its first Essex test is against Newark East Side on Saturday.

West Orange arrives with 14 consecutive wins, including four recent victories and three clean sheets. The second-ranked side reportedly defeated Madison, South Brunswick, Nutley and Belleville by an aggregate 23-1 and now faces Newark Academy.

Delbarton and Randolph face a county test

Pingry’s unbeaten run has reached 13 matches, but its route to the Non-Public A final could include St. Benedict’s or Delbarton.

Delbarton is also unbeaten in 13, with reported wins of 5-0 against Chatham and 6-0 over Roxbury. It meets Mendham before Saturday’s Morris County Tournament semifinal against Dover, where coach David Donovan is seeking a landmark 600th victory.

Randolph advanced past Madison 2-1 and will face Morris Hills in the other semifinal. A Randolph-Delbarton final is scheduled for October 24 if both teams progress.

Movement beyond the leading five

Montclair Kimberley has climbed from 11th to eighth after beating Livingston 3-1, while Manalapan slipped from eighth to 14th after a 6-0 defeat by East Brunswick ended a ten-match winning streak. Robbinsville has returned to 20th after eight straight wins.

The next fixtures will determine whether the leading contenders preserve their rankings - and whether Essex and Morris produce the finals the bracket now appears to promise.
