Shandong set the tone early. Maiwulang Mijiti opened the score in the ninth minute from a Zeca assist, and the hosts doubled their lead at 16 minutes when Zeca finished from Liu Yang's setup. Zeca struck again at 25 minutes, this time with Maiwulang Mijiti providing the assist, to complete a blistering opening spell. Chen Pu then went into the book just before the half-hour mark, before Yunnan found a route back through Alexandru Ionita at 41 minutes after good work from Oscar Maritu.
The home side made a half-time change, with Memet Imran replacing Huang Zhengyu, and restored their cushion at 54 minutes when Chen Pu made it 4-1. Yunnan responded with changes of their own, sending on Cleber and Huang Zichang in the 67th minute, and the away side's comeback gathered pace from there.
Cleber converted a penalty at 75 minutes to cut the score to 4-2, and after more substitutions at both ends, he struck again on 90 minutes with Oscar Maritu supplying the assist. The late pressure made for nervy final highlights, but Shandong held on. In the end, the summary was simple: Shandong's explosive first half decided the result, even if Yunnan's late surge sharpened the stats and the drama.
