Torres has never looked like a one-position forward.
That profile appears well suited to PSG. Their strongest attacking sides have usually carried speed, rotation and runners from different angles. Torres would seem to fit that model neatly, giving the front line another player capable of linking phases and attacking space.
For Barcelona, the logic appears to be part sporting, part financial. The club have spent multiple windows trying to improve the squad while keeping enough flexibility to make bigger strategic moves. If the reported fee is accurate, this is the kind of sale that can reshape a summer.
That does not mean the decision would be painless. Torres has often looked useful precisely because he covers several roles, and coaches value players who can solve different problems in one squad place. But versatile attackers are also the sort of assets clubs may sacrifice when a more transformational target comes into view.
The report says the Torres deal could help fund a move for Rodri, and that is where the story becomes especially interesting. Barcelona have long valued control in midfield, and Rodri would appear to offer exactly that: composure, structure and authority in possession.
The difficulty is obvious. Manchester City are rarely under pressure to sell key players, and any approach for someone of Rodri’s standing would likely be complex from both a sporting and financial perspective.
