Newquay AFC Plans England v Ghana Fanzone at Mount Wise

Mount Wise becomes first choice

The report says a large screen, food and drink will be available for fans watching England’s remaining group matches. Supporters will be able to gather at the stadium rather than relying on a conventional public screening elsewhere in town.

That setting gives the event a clear local identity. A football ground offers space for families, friends and regular matchgoers, while connecting the international occasion to Newquay AFC and its grassroots work.

Indoor fallback remains ready

Weather remains the main variable. The previous fanzone was moved to Newquay Sports Centre after conditions ruled out an outdoor event, but the update says the screen operated successfully and supporters were kept dry.

The sports centre will again provide a contingency option if rain or other disruption affects the stadium plan. That gives organisers flexibility without cancelling the event altogether.

Fanzone can support the club

The report says food and drink sales will contribute directly to Newquay AFC. That turns the screening into more than a place to watch England: it also creates a matchday-style revenue stream for the local club.

For supporters, the appeal is the combination of a major tournament fixture and a familiar football setting. For Newquay AFC, the event offers visibility and practical support at the same time.

The next test comes on 23 June, when England face Ghana. If the weather allows the crowd back under the lights, Mount Wise could become the focal point for Newquay’s remaining group-match screenings.
