The report says Jacob saved £10,000 over five years for a property deposit in East Yorkshire. Instead, he is using the money for a journey built around England’s World Cup campaign.
The pair are expected to leave on Friday, travelling through New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Mexico City and Miami before returning to New York. Their first major football stop will be England’s meeting with Panama on Saturday.
Jacob has made the decision sound simple. “Chamar meu avô era óbvio. Ele aceitou na hora,” he said - inviting his grandfather was obvious, and the answer was immediate.
Their relationship with the sport stretches well beyond the national team. Jacob began following Hull City with Geoff as a child, and the club became even more important after the death of Jacob’s grandmother in 2020.
The pair regularly attend Hull matches at home and away, and the report says they were at Wembley when the club secured promotion to the Premier League in May. That shared history gives the World Cup trip an emotional foundation no itinerary can replicate.
For Geoff, the excitement is already building. “À medida que vai chegando, fico realmente animado. A adrenalina está aumentando e estou muito ansioso,” he said.
Jacob insists football is only part of the adventure. “O futebol é só 5% da viagem. Estou ansioso para viajar pela América do Norte com ele,” he said.
The report says a victory over Panama would send England into the next round. Whatever happens on the pitch, the next fixture will mark the beginning of a journey that may prove more valuable than any house deposit.
