Preston Park Returns to World Taekwondo Poomsae

A partnership with recent momentum

Park will compete alongside Anna Chang in the recognised mixed-pair division. The report says the pair won the junior division at the 2026 US Open Championships in March, giving them a recent title to build on before their appearance in Chuncheon, South Korea.

Poomsae differs from sparring: athletes perform prescribed sequences of taekwondo techniques, with precision, balance and synchronisation central to the result. That makes the established Park-Chang partnership particularly important in a discipline where small errors can affect the final assessment.

Returning with international experience

This is reportedly Park’s fourth selection for the USA Taekwondo National Team. His previous assignments have covered three disciplines: kyorugi sparring, poomsae and virtual taekwondo.

His most significant poomsae result came in 2022, when he and Julia Cho won silver in the cadet mixed-pair division in Goyang. The report also lists appearances at the 2023 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the 2024 Virtual Taekwondo Championships in Singapore.

Park is also due to join Whye Jing Ong and David Gil in the United States men’s recognised team event, adding a second route to the podium.

A broad competitive record

The report says Park has collected 211 medals across 11 years, including 37 in international competition. His family also points to 121 gold medals and a Pan American sparring title, underlining a record that extends beyond poomsae.

The next test arrives during the championships’ final weekend, with Park expected to return to the United States on 22 September. His mixed-pair chemistry with Chang and his contribution to the men’s team will be the key storylines to watch.
