Mark Torcaso Launches Global Talent Search for Filipinas

A wider search for talent

Torcaso is reportedly using the opening of the PFF Women’s League in Manila to reconnect with the domestic game while assessing players based across the region. The report says his search could extend to Filipina prospects in Myanmar, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Europe.

“I want to make sure that we give everyone an opportunity to be part of this World Cup, and I don't want to miss out on anyone,” Torcaso said.

That approach reflects the changing profile of the national team. The Philippines’ rise has been driven by a blend of locally developed players and overseas-based talent, and the next challenge is finding enough depth to compete consistently against Asia’s strongest teams.

Camps designed to test the squad

The programme is expected to include camps in the United States, South America and Asia, with the Asian Games in Japan offering a particularly useful examination. Because the tournament falls outside a international window, some overseas-based players may not be available, but that limitation could give emerging Filipinas a valuable opportunity.

“The main objective in this Asian Games is obviously to go as far as we can, but it's also for us as coaches and the country to test some players at a tough level to see if they'll be ready for the World Cup,” Torcaso explained.

The reported roadmap also includes the Pinatar Cup in Spain, Olympic qualifying and a final extended camp in Brazil before the tournament.

Federation backing matters

The Philippine Football Federation is expected to provide resources for the long build-up, with sponsors and national sporting bodies also offering support. That backing will be crucial if Torcaso is to maintain regular camps and expose the squad to varied opposition.

The next major checkpoint will be the Asian Games, where new faces could strengthen the Filipinas’ case for a deeper World Cup run.
