The agreement reportedly runs through the 2029-30 season, with options that could extend it beyond that point. Antongirolami is expected to begin with Sporting KC II in MLS NEXT Pro before being incorporated into the senior squad ahead of the 2027-28 season.
That staged approach is significant. Rather than rushing a teenage centre-back into Major League Soccer, Sporting appears ready to give him regular exposure to senior football while protecting his physical and tactical development.
Antongirolami joined the Sporting academy in 2021, aged 10, and has reportedly been used above his age group. The Kansas City native has also featured regularly in United States youth national-team environments, adding international experience to his club development.
Lee’s assessment, as relayed in the report, is equally encouraging. Antongirolami is described as a left-footed defender with strong tactical understanding, technical quality and considerable potential. Those traits are increasingly valuable in modern defensive systems, where centre-backs are expected to build attacks as well as stop them.
The report also says he has already appeared for Sporting KC II this season and has been selected for the MLS NEXT All-Star Game in July.
A professional contract is recognition, but it is not the destination. Antongirolami must now handle senior football, stronger opponents and the expectations that come with being labelled one of the club’s brightest prospects.
The next storyline is his progress with Sporting KC II, followed by the test of whether he can turn a promising long-term plan into a genuine first-team opportunity in 2027-28.
