The Cyclones’ latest home defeat to Unionville-Milliken was another frustrating chapter. Sudbury reportedly struck the woodwork repeatedly and missed a clear breakaway before conceding shortly after half-time.
“There’s not much else you can do,” Politi said. “The guys are down, but you try to stay positive.”
That frustration has become familiar. Sudbury have created enough openings to believe they can compete at this level, but the failure to turn chances into goals has left them vulnerable in matches decided by a single moment.
The earlier meeting between the teams reportedly ended in a narrow 2-1 Scrosoppi win, with Sudbury level until late in the second half. That history points towards another tight match rather than an open contest.
Scrosoppi’s position near the top of the table gives them the greater margin for error, but Sudbury’s home performances suggest the visitors may have to work for every opportunity. A low-scoring away win appears the most likely betting angle, while under 3.5 goals has a stronger case than a wide-open shootout.
With nine regular-season games reportedly remaining, every missed chance carries extra weight. The upcoming trip to Burlington SC could be even more significant, with Burlington said to hold a points advantage over Sudbury.
“If we go into that Burlington game and we need to win and they only need to draw, we’re at a serious disadvantage,” Politi explained.
Sudbury’s response against Scrosoppi will set the tone for that crucial run-in. Another spirited display without a result would deepen the concern; a first step towards sharper finishing could change the mood quickly.
