Green Bay Women Host Detroit Mercy in Unbeaten Test

A defence built on consistency

The report says Green Bay has opened the campaign with six wins and two draws, remaining among the unbeaten teams in Division I. The Phoenix have also conceded no more than one goal in any match, while recording six clean sheets.

That defensive platform has been strengthened by goalkeepers Anna Scott and Hannah Williams, alongside Jess Howard. Howard, who reportedly arrived from Stetson, has quickly made an impact and was recognised as a Horizon League defensive player of the week.

For a team still establishing its identity, that reliability could prove more important than spectacular attacking numbers.

Hanes return would change the attack

Senah Hanes is reportedly nearing a possible return after missing around a month with an injury. She scored in each of Green Bay’s first three matches, giving the Phoenix a direct threat that has been difficult to replace.

Even without Hanes, the report says Green Bay has scored 12 goals and ranks fourth in the Horizon League for that output. Her return, if it comes soon, would give Kagan another option in a team already gaining confidence from its defensive structure.

The cautious approach will be essential. An injury comeback is rarely judged by one moment, and Green Bay will not want to risk losing Hanes again before the key stretch of the season.

Kagan’s patient rebuild

This surge follows a difficult period for the programme. Green Bay’s improvement under Kagan has reportedly been driven by greater discipline, stronger daily habits and a clearer commitment to football and academics.

The Phoenix reached the Horizon League tournament final last season, moving to within one victory of an NCAA Tournament place. Now, the challenge is turning a promising start into a sustained campaign.

Detroit Mercy offers the next test. The result could show whether Green Bay’s defence can keep carrying the team-and whether Hanes is ready to become part of the next chapter.
