Springfield Unbeaten as Parker Kozy Leads MAC Attack

Kozy gives Springfield the edge

Springfield’s attacking threat is obvious, but its consistency has been built across the pitch. Coach Mario Mattioli pointed to continuity within his squad, saying, “We’re off to a 7-0-2 start, and the key has been having almost everybody back from last year.”

That familiarity could prove important against a Woodridge side becoming more adventurous. The Bulldogs have reportedly seen nine different players score this season, including Gavin Genovese, Logan Feisthamel and Mason Hendlick.

Jurmanovich the defensive anchor

Mattioli’s biggest praise was reserved for senior goalkeeper Gabe Jurmanovich, who the report credits with six clean sheets. His ability to make quick decisions may be crucial if Woodridge’s high-energy approach creates transition chances.

“He just makes good decisions, reacts quickly and has good hands from being a baseball player,” Mattioli said.

That defensive organisation has also helped Springfield recover from losing positions, giving the Spartans a resilience Woodridge will need to test rather than simply contain.

A changing conference landscape

For Woodridge, goalkeeper Jonah Smith will anchor a defence facing one of the area’s most dangerous scorers. For Springfield, the challenge is to prevent the Bulldogs’ broader scoring threat from turning an open contest into a track meet.

The 1 October fixture could also carry extra significance, with Springfield reportedly set to leave the conference for the Greater Portage Conference next autumn. The next storyline is whether Woodridge’s attacking momentum can disrupt Springfield’s final stretch in the MAC.
