Crystal Palace Sign Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo

Mingueza brings versatility

Mingueza, 27, made 66 appearances for Barcelona before joining Celta Vigo. He then played 147 times for the Galician club between 2022 and 2026, contributing seven goals and 15 assists.

Those numbers underline why Palace moved quickly. Mingueza can operate at centre-back or full-back, offering flexibility in possession and allowing the manager to adjust shape without making an immediate substitution. His contract had expired, making the deal particularly attractive in a market where reliable defenders command significant fees.

Brighton target Vargas

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly preparing an offer for Sevilla attacker Ruben Vargas, although West Ham United are also interested.

Vargas raised his profile at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice and supplying one assist in five appearances as Switzerland reached the quarter-finals. His club campaign was less consistent, with an injury-hit season producing three goals and six assists in 25 appearances.

Sevilla are expected to demand more than £13 million, while a previous offer of that value from Villarreal was reportedly rejected. Brighton’s position is strengthened by strong early-season momentum: another report says the Seagulls are third after three consecutive league wins without conceding.

Pope decision could trigger movement

Ipswich Town are reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope. The 34-year-old has one year remaining on his contract and made 36 appearances last season.

Newcastle’s interest in Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, combined with their signing of 20-year-old Ewen Jaouen from Reims, could create room for Pope to leave. For newly promoted Ipswich, his experience would provide an immediate upgrade in a demanding Premier League return.

Palace’s completed signing sets the pace, but Brighton’s Vargas pursuit and the developing goalkeeper chain could define the next phase of the window.
