Eight North Jersey Soccer Player of the Week Nominees

Attackers set the pace

The reported numbers make this a strong week for North Jersey’s forwards and midfielders:

  • Andrew Kim, Glen Rock - reportedly scored four goals and added four assists across two wins. His first varsity hat-trick came against Waldwick as Glen Rock stayed unbeaten atop the NJIC Colonial.
  • Madisyn Abella, Immaculate Heart - produced six goals and one assist in two wins over ranked opponents, including four goals against Bergen Tech.
  • Ava Illuzzi, Secaucus - recorded eight goals and one assist in victories over Lodi and Weehawken.
  • Elena Pothos, Old Tappan - delivered consecutive hat-tricks and finished the week with six goals and three assists against Northern Highlands and Teaneck.
  • Will Raman, Northern Highlands - contributed three goals and two assists during three wins. The captain reportedly assisted the decisive goal against Ramsey and scored the winner against Pascack Hills.

Goalkeepers have their case

The nomination list also rewards saves rather than only goals. The report credits three goalkeepers with turning defensive work into results:

  • Jason Baer, Tenafly - made 26 saves while conceding once in two divisional wins, including 17 stops in a 1-0 clean-sheet victory over Demarest.
  • Matthew Brooks, River Dell - recorded 25 saves and two clean sheets in away wins at Mahwah and Ridgefield Park.
  • Alejandra Santos, Bergenfield - stopped 18 of 19 shots as Bergenfield won twice and moved to 6-0.

A vote shaped by momentum

The strongest cases combine individual production with team progress. Kim and Raman supplied goals and assists in winning runs, while Baer, Brooks and Santos reportedly protected results under pressure. Abella, Illuzzi and Pothos offer the biggest attacking totals, giving voters several distinct profiles to consider.

The stated deadline is Thursday at 17:00. The next storyline will be whether these players can carry their current scoring, creative and shot-stopping form into their teams’ next fixtures.
