South Korea Reportedly Weighs Javier Aguirre for 2030

Why Aguirre appeals

Aguirre offers experience of international football’s demanding environment. He has managed Mexico across multiple stages of his career and previously coached Japan, giving him an understanding of the pressures and football culture of Asia.

His teams are typically built around structure, discipline and tournament pragmatism. That could appeal to South Korea, whose squad includes established leaders such as Son Heung-min, Lee Kang-in and Kim Min-jae. The next coach will need to blend that senior core with emerging talent while giving the team a clearer identity.

A long-term project would also suit Aguirre’s strengths. The 2030 cycle provides time to rebuild, but expectations will remain high after a disappointing World Cup campaign.

Saudi interest remains a factor

South Korea is reportedly not Aguirre’s only option. He has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, creating an unresolved choice between another national-team challenge and club football.

Commenting on reported Saudi interest, Aguirre said: “Talvez tenham notado meu desempenho no México.” He also indicated that he wanted time with his family before deciding his next step.

That leaves the Korean approach at an early stage. Aguirre appears to be under consideration, not confirmed as the federation’s choice, while other candidates remain in the frame.

The next storyline will be whether South Korea turns its reported interest into formal contact-and whether Aguirre sees the 2030 project as the right challenge for his next chapter.
