Birmingham Chip Shop Mural Celebrates Bellingham and Rogers

A quick idea with a big reaction

The report says artist Dion Kitson arrived at the Classic Fryer in Quinton with the idea already prepared. Owner Kumar agreed to display it, and the poster was soon on the wall.

“I love chips, I love the Black Country, I love Jude and Morgan,” Kitson said. “No one asked me. I rocked up to the Classic Fryer in Quinton and said I wanna do this mural.”

The response was immediate, with motorists and passers-by stopping to look. Kitson added: “Traffic stopped, people shouted from cars, people love it, people love art.”

Local names, national stage

The mural’s detail is what gives it meaning. Bellingham is shown with “Stourbridge” on his shirt, while Rogers wears “Halesowen”, linking both players to neighbouring parts of Dudley borough.

A Black Country flag beneath each place name makes the message clear: this is not simply a celebration of two England players, but of a region watching its own representatives take centre stage.

For supporters, that connection can make a major tournament feel personal. The players are not distant figures from an international squad; they are familiar names from nearby communities, now carrying local hopes into one of the biggest matches of their careers.

From takeaway to fan hub

Kumar said the artwork has brought customers to the shop for food and photographs. “The artist, Dion, has done a really good job,” he said. “People have come to us for their food, and they really like it. They have been coming and taking selfies.”

Now the mural’s next chapter depends on England’s result. If the team advances, Kumar says Kitson has promised to return with another design showing the trophy - turning a quick piece of fan art into an even bigger celebration.
