Los Angeles Hotels See World Cup Surge as Knockouts Near

Beach stays become part of the tournament

The Pierside, in Santa Monica, was reportedly sold out for the weekend despite being some distance from SoFi Stadium. For many travelling fans, the World Cup was not simply a matchday trip but a broader Los Angeles experience.

“Acho que os hotéis à beira-mar ficaram mais movimentados porque os turistas têm mais interesse em ir à praia enquanto estão aqui,” the manager said.

That blend of football and tourism is particularly important in a sprawling city. Supporters can choose the energy of the Stadium District, the beaches of Santa Monica or the attractions of downtown, turning one fixture into a longer holiday.

Stronger demand, but not everywhere

The Anthem Hotel, close to the stadium area, also reportedly benefited from international and domestic visitors. General manager Ruben Flores said, “Muitos hóspedes estão planejando estadias mais longas, usando os dias de jogo como centro de um roteiro mais amplo por Los Angeles.”

Yet the recovery appears uneven. Some hotels near Los Angeles International Airport remained below expectations, while high prices may have limited spontaneous bookings. “Ainda estamos estáveis, mas não muito cheios ou muito ocupados, bem parecido com qualquer outro dia,” Kira Moreno of Hotel Indigo said.

That contrast reflects a familiar football economy: major fixtures can create sudden demand, but the benefits depend on location, travel costs and the willingness of fans to stay longer.

The next storyline for Los Angeles will be whether this late World Cup lift carries beyond the final fixture. For hotels, the tournament’s lasting value may be measured not only in full rooms on match weekends, but in whether visiting supporters return for the city itself.
