Suzuki, 23, has established himself as a regular for Parma since joining the club permanently. The report credits him with 57 Serie A appearances, giving him a significant sample of top-level experience despite his age.
That profile would appeal to Unai Emery, particularly as Villa would be replacing more than Martínez’s shot-stopping. The Argentine has been a commanding presence in the penalty area and a consistent starter, so the incoming goalkeeper must offer authority, reliability and comfort under pressure.
Suzuki’s international background also adds weight to the case. He has been part of Japan’s senior setup and is viewed as a goalkeeper with room to develop further.
Parma are reportedly seeking around £25 million for Suzuki. That valuation places pressure on Villa to decide whether they want an immediate replacement or a longer-term investment with resale potential.
Villa may also face competition. PSG and Juventus have reportedly shown interest, while Leeds United are understood to have made an early enquiry. Juventus’ interest would become particularly notable if Martínez arrives, although Suzuki could represent a succession plan rather than an immediate first-choice signing.
Risser remains the central storyline, but Suzuki gives Villa a credible fallback if the preferred deal stalls.
The next step is whether Villa make a formal approach for Suzuki or push ahead with Risser. Their decision should define the goalkeeper position before the first major phase of pre-season.
