Detroit City FC Receives Record Investment for New Stadium

A move planned for 2028

The planned 15,000-seat AlumniFi Field is expected to welcome Detroit City in 2028, with the club reportedly remaining at Keyworth Stadium through the 2027 season.

The report says construction could begin this month. The stadium is estimated at $150 million, while the wider mixed-use development could reach around $200 million. Those figures remain project estimates, but they underline the scale of the undertaking.

More than a football venue

For Detroit City, the proposed move is about more than capacity. A permanent ground could improve matchday operations, create new commercial opportunities and provide a platform for concerts, events and community programmes.

The development is reportedly planned around Michigan Avenue and 20th Street, linking Corktown and Mexicantown. It is also expected to include residential space, with a significant portion designated as affordable housing.

Farner is also quoted as saying: “Detroit faz parte da minha vida há muitas décadas, e estou animado para apoiar o crescimento do DCFC aqui em nossa cidade natal.” His message reflects the project’s intended blend of investment, local identity and long-term ambition.

The next test will be turning the announcement into visible progress. Detroit City’s remaining seasons at Keyworth should now carry an added sense of anticipation, with supporters watching closely for construction milestones and the first signs of life at AlumniFi Field.
