Emile Heskey Warns Newcastle Could Sell Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle’s project under pressure

Reports of Sandro Tonali moving to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon joining Barcelona have intensified questions about Newcastle’s direction. Heskey believes Bruno could view those departures as evidence that the team is being dismantled rather than strengthened.

“Vocês reforçaram o time, e agora estão vendendo esse time,” Heskey said, imagining the midfielder’s perspective.

That is the uncomfortable challenge facing Eddie Howe. Newcastle have spent heavily to build a squad capable of competing for the top four and handling Champions League demands. Losing another senior figure would not simply create a midfield gap; it could undermine confidence in the wider project.

Bruno’s value goes beyond his passing. He sets the tempo, brings aggression to the centre of the pitch and gives Newcastle authority in possession. Replacing that influence would require more than one hurried signing.

Liverpool and the Anderson question

Heskey also believes Liverpool should have pursued Elliot Anderson, who reportedly moved from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City.

“Eu gosto dele, gostava muito. Eu dizia que o Liverpool provavelmente deveria ter ido atrás dele,” Heskey said.

His assessment of Anderson is built around versatility: an aggressive midfielder able to cover ground, recover possession and drive attacks towards the playmaker. For Liverpool, that profile would have offered energy and flexibility during a period of squad change.

Howe’s difficult balancing act

Heskey sees frustration, rather than panic, around Howe. The manager is being asked to compete on multiple fronts while important players are reportedly leaving. “Você acaba ficando frustrado,” he concluded.

The next transfer window will test Newcastle’s response. Keeping Bruno would provide continuity; selling him would demand an exceptionally well-planned rebuild. For Liverpool, the Anderson debate may become a reminder that elite midfield targets often disappear quickly.
