Seth Scott and Oliver Jenks Plan a World Cup Cab Tour

The black cab test

The report says the taxi was found in Vancouver, may have arrived there in 2007 and may have appeared in films. Scott and Jenks believe it could be the only London black cab in Canada.

It already has more than 480,000 kilometres on the clock. The proposed journey would add roughly 16,000 kilometres, turning an unusual piece of motoring history into a crucial member of the travelling party.

Comfort could become another storyline. The rear reportedly seats six passengers, but the front cabin is far less forgiving, with limited legroom for whoever takes the wheel.

A route built for endurance

The planned route begins in Vancouver and Seattle before heading down the west coast through San Francisco and Los Angeles. From there, the pair intend to visit three Mexican stadiums before returning to the United States.

The journey then continues through Texas and Miami, before moving north towards Kansas, Toronto and the three East Coast venues. They do not expect to attend every match, but hope to take in games along the way.

Friendship at the heart of it

The report says Scott and Jenks first met during the Mongol Rally from London to Mongolia. They later completed a London-to-Cape Town drive in a three-wheel Reliant Robin, with the idea for this latest challenge emerging after an engine breakdown in Cameroon.

The next test begins when the cab leaves Vancouver. The key question is whether the ageing vehicle - and its adventurous crew - can reach all 16 stadiums before the tournament road runs out.
