Frank and Gustavo Continue the Gaúcho da Copa Legacy

A symbol in the stands

Clóvis was more than a familiar face among Brazil supporters. With his gaucho hat, scarf, boots, yellow shirt and replica World Cup trophy, he became one of the tournament’s most recognisable fans.

The report says he followed Brazil across seven World Cups, including the triumphs of 1994 and 2002. His image carried a different emotion in 2014, when he was photographed crying and embracing the replica trophy after Brazil’s devastating defeat by Germany.

That mixture of joy, pain and loyalty made him a powerful symbol of what international football means to supporters who follow their country wherever the game takes them.

A family mission

After Clóvis died in 2015, Frank and Gustavo reportedly chose to preserve his presence rather than let the tradition disappear. They attended the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and now hope to reach a tenth consecutive tournament for the family.

Frank described the next chapter as carrying “muito mais que um troféu” - much more than a trophy. The brothers have also referred to their father as “Seu Clóvis” and the “eterno Gaúcho da Copa”, presenting their journeys as an act of remembrance.

Their recreated photographs, featuring the trophy replica, show that this is not simply about wearing the right colours. It is about keeping a personal ritual alive in public view.

Brazil’s next travelling supporters

The brothers have described the legacy as a mission built on “uma vida na estrada”, with every trip representing faith in football, joy and togetherness. That message gives their planned 2026 appearance an emotional weight beyond the result on the pitch.

If Frank and Gustavo make it to the next World Cup, cameras may once again find the hat, the trophy and the unmistakable yellow shirt - a family tradition still dreaming with Brazil.
