Goshen Defeats Penn 2-0 After Loss to Concord

Hernandez provides the breakthrough

After a goalless first half, Yurem Hernandez reportedly changed the game shortly after the restart. The senior drove down the left, went beyond a defender and the goalkeeper, and finished into the bottom-left corner.

“Winning on this field means everything to me; I finally won, and it feels so good,” Hernandez said.

His celebration with the Goshen supporters underlined the importance of the moment. The report says the RedHawks had lost their previous two meetings with Penn, making the response especially satisfying.

Composure from the spot

Goshen then reportedly doubled its advantage when Penn conceded a handball inside the penalty area. Brandon Alvarez Ramos converted the resulting penalty before celebrating with the RedHawks bench.

The victory came with senior starter Rey Rodriguez unavailable after receiving a red card in the reported loss to Concord. That absence could have unsettled Goshen, but the RedHawks found a way to control the second half and protect their lead.

The report says the result moved Goshen to 7-1, while Penn fell to 5-2-4, and kept the RedHawks unbeaten in Class 3A play.

Ranking pressure remains

Mounsithiraj’s message was clear: the ranking matters less than what Goshen does when the postseason arrives. “The only way I know that you're No. 1 is if we win state,” he said.

That challenge now becomes the RedHawks’ central storyline. A strong regular season can establish confidence, but potential sectional meetings with Concord, Penn and other contenders will demand the same resilience shown at Lionshead Field.

Goshen’s next fixture will reveal whether the Penn win was a one-night reaction or the start of another sustained run.
