- Arsenal had agreed terms with Chelsea
- Liverpool was Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first choice
- England player will be in central midfield for Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool have pulled off a shock £40 million hijack by agreeing a deal with Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain right under Chelsea’s noses.
The Ox was expected to swap the Emirates for Stamford Bridge – but now he’s on his way to Anfield.
Sources tell Football.com that the reason is that Reds boss promised the player a spot in the heart of his midfield while Antonio Conte wanted him to play wing back at Chelsea.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is now set to miss England’s trip to Malta on Friday to complete a medical at Anfield.
Chelsea had agreed terms with Arsenal – but Ox plumped for a move up north. Liverpool now have 24 hours to agree on personal terms with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who rejected a deal worth around £180,000 per week to stay at Arsenal.
