- Venezuela coach claims women were sent to distract his team in Paraguay.
- If he was right, it didn’t work – Venezuela won 1-0.
- Coach Rafael Dudamel said it was an “old strategy.”
Prostitutes were sent to the Venezuela team hotel to distract the players ahead of a crucial World Cup in Paraguay.
That’s the extraordinary claim made by Venezuela’s coach Rafael Dudamel.
Paraguay still had a chance of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia ahead of the match in Asuncion while Venezuela were already out.
According to Dudamel, someone was clearly very keen for his players to be distracted and fatigued before the match.
“There were several female visits last night at the hotel,” he claimed.
“But soccer players have evolved. We are not surprised with these female visits and do not know who sent them. These are old tactics.”
If he was right, the skullduggery didn’t pay off – Manchester City’s Yangel Herrera – currently on loan to New York City FC – scored the only goal of the game six minutes from time to give Venezuela the win and end Paraguay’s qualification hopes.
