Cristiano Ronaldo has led the tributes to Zinedine Zidane after the former France superstar quit the club just days after winning his third successive Champions League trophy.
In his two-and-a-half seasons at the Bernabeu, Ziane became the first manager to successfully defend the Champions League in the modern era.
Real also won a La Liga title last year, while Ronaldo claimed successive Ballon d’Or awards during Zidane’s trophy-laden reign.
The decision shocked much of the football world, with president Florentino Perez only informed one day earlier.
Alongside a picture of himself with Zidane, Ronaldo posted a message on Instagram saying: “I only feel proud to have been your player. Mister, thank you so much.”
Captain Sergio Ramos was the only player Zidane told about his decision before the announcement.
Ramos wrote: ‘As a player and coach you decided to say goodbye at the top. Thank you for two and a half incredible years. ‘Your legacy will never be erased, one of the most successful chapters in the history of our beloved club.’
