Manchester United legend George Best was sport’s first football playboy with the looks, the women and all the trappings of a rock star.
But was the Irishman the best ever?
Best was so dedicated (to being a stud) that he famously scored at half time with one of the many beautiful women he hung out with in the 60s.
He once said: “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”
He was also a genius with the ball at his feet. At a time when many pitches resembled cowfields and leg-breaking tackles were just part of the game, Best floated through opposing defenses like a mop-haired ballet dancer.
Everyone has their own opinion of who really was the game’s all time best. Pele, Ronaldo, Messi, Zidane, Maradona?
Tell us your choice – and why – by posting a comment in the section below and we’ll feature the post on Throwback Thursday.
