Troy Deeney is a smaller striker than he was last season – he’s lost a stone in weight.
But that doesn’t mean the intimidating Watford skipper has lost a step. The striker has scored two goals already for the unbeaten Hornets and is inspiring his side’s incredible start to the season.
Manager Javi Gracia has been quick to praise the forward and was once again delighted with the manner of Deeney’s display in the 2-1 victory over Spurs.
“He is the captain, he is the spirit and you can see he always tries to set an example and help everyone,” Gracia said of the 30-year-old’s performance. “Today he has been very important and not only in scoring a goal. I said many times it is not only when the strikers score goals that they are important for us. They work during all the minutes and help us score goals.”
The striker has also been using a psychologist and nutritionist and says he has rediscovered his love of football this season.
Watching this video, you can see he deserves his success – he’s certainly working for it!
He’s a good guy too…
@T_Deeney so today my youngest made it 3 out of 3 kids to lead out the golden boys with you. I’ve seen first hand how you treat the fans. In these days of disconnection between players and supporters I won’t hear a word against you . Many thanks again #watfordfc pic.twitter.com/0TroLu4CEK
