Mo Salah may be setting the Premier League alight with his goals, but he’s no longer the most expensive African footballer of all time.
That distinction goes to Cedric Bakambu, the ‘new Didier Drogba.’
Bakambu has cored 46 goals in two-and-a-half seasons at Villarreal and now the DR Congo international forward has had his release clause triggered by Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan.
On top of the £40 million transfer fee, Beijing will also have to pay an additional £30 million in tax to the Chinese government. And then there’s his £16 million salary.
Altogether, Bakambu will end up costing way beyond Mohamed Salah £34.4 million as Africa’s most costly footballing export.
